All About Neuropsychology

Protecting people’s health is one of the most critical areas of social practice that requires the participation of specialists in the field of neuropsychology. Helping a sick person that is an adult, a child with a variety of brain diseases (vascular, traumatic, tumor, etc.) is provided not only by doctors but also by psychologists.

The intensive development of neurosciences at present requires that the basic principles of neuropsychology.

What is neuropsychology?

Neuropsychology is an interdisciplinary scientific field that lies at the intersection of psychology and neuroscience, aimed at understanding the relationship between the structure and functioning of the brain with mental processes and the behavior of living beings.

Neuropsychology studies the features of memory, perception, speech, motor skills, thinking, emotional response, auditory and tactile perception, spatial representations, self-regulation, self-control, coordination, and balance. It is these processes that are the main and determining success of the development of the child and are the basis of all further education of the child. Neuropsychological support includes neuropsychological diagnosis and neuropsychological correction.

A neuropsychological examination will be useful for children with the following problems:

– Difficulties in remembering, comparing, generalizing;

– Decreased attention when completing a task;

– Problems with the assimilation of educational material;

– Mirror writing (writes letters the other way around);

– There is no clear understanding of spatial representations

– Poor coordination, clumsiness;

– Excessive activity or slowness;

– Poor motor skills of the hands are poorly developed (the child draws and writes poorly;

– Tics, stuttering, obsessive movements;

– Movements with the tongue or other parts of the body are noted when he draws or writes;

– Frequent crying, problems with sleep, appetite;

– Problems in behavior

– Deficiencies in speech development

Based on the results of the examination, a pediatric neuropsychologist consults with parents, during which the diagnostic results are explained in detail. Then general recommendations are given, and a course of corrective work (neuropsychological correction) is planned to take into account the physiological and personality characteristics of a child.

What is a neuropsychological correction, and how can it help?

Neuro correction is a complex of correctional and developmental exercises that allows you to develop “problematic,” lagging brain functions that are identified during a neuropsychological examination.

The complex of psychological techniques within the framework of neuropsychological correction is aimed at changing the structure of impaired brain functions (memory, attention, thinking, perception, etc.) and their compensation. Neurocorrection helps so that in the future, the child can independently learn and control their behavior. This type of correction allows you to adjust the features of the child’s development, bring it closer to the normal course, and facilitate the child’s entry into the usual social environment.

Our brain is very plastic, and, until the child reaches 12 years old, almost any underdevelopment or negative consequence can be reduced and corrected. Therefore, this is the most effective technique for children aged 3 to 12 years. The sooner the diagnosis of the disorder is carried out, and the therapy begins, the faster its results will be visible.

A correction program is developed individually for each child based on classical neuropsychological methods using elements of body-oriented therapy.

Neuropsychology is a vital discipline that should be taken with serious consideration. This is because it deals with how our brain operates.
